Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)

I waited a long time before seeing this movie.  Partially because I am not a huge fan of westerns and partially because I didn’t know anything about it.  Well this weekend I finally saw it.  It was different, in a way, than I expected it to be.  I laughed pretty hard, the dialogue is awesome (what dialogue there is).  The cinematography that won the Academy Award was very good, if not a bit hippyish.  The music, although good, really threw me off.  But I like things that throw me off, so it’s all good.  Seriously, just thinking about the characters and some of the lines makes me smile. :)   There really is no clear point to the film, except to portray a little bit of history.  Paul Newman and Robert Redford give awesome performances of two very well written characters.  It’s great to watch their friendship play out on screen.  Fun stuff, I’d watch it again.

Parent’s Guide:  This is not a movie kids will really enjoy.  There is some swearing as well as two brief scenes that are inappropiate.  A lot of western style violence.

Send Me No Flowers (1964)

Last-night I watched the last of the Rock Hudson/Doris Day movies.  It was very different, yet also similar, to the previous two.  I’m not sure which I like the best, Pillow Talk or Send Me No Flowers.  I really disliked Lover Come Back.  But then, this isn’t a review of that movie.  Send Me No Flowerswas very cute, a fun romantic comedy.  Though I found it to be a little less romantic and a little more comedy.  Nothing wrong with that mind you.  There was a bit of innuendo, but other than that (and that being subtle due to the censorship of the time), this is a clean movie.  But that’s about all there is to say for it: fun, sweet, cute, laugh out loud funny.  I thoroughly enjoyed Rock Hudson’s character for a change.  Dare I say he’s even cute in this movie?  Tony Randall of course is, as always, a riot!  I find him almost a Thelma Ritter type side-kick, but that could be just me.  Funnyman Paul Lynde also takes an awesome turn as the funeral home proprietor.  I recommend if you are in the mood for something light and frothy :)   Good times!
