The Doctor (1991)

William Hurt leads a great cast in this medical drama.  Christine Lahti, Mandy Patinkin, and Elizabeth Perkins co-star.  I found this to be a good intellectual/comedic drama.  William Hurt, as always, gave a great performance as Dr. McKee, the cardiologist who after years of being the doctor now becomes the patient.  I really did enjoy it and laughed out loud quite a bit.  Keep in mind, though it may be funny, it also deals with some serious issues: flaws in the medical system, marital strife, death, and malpractice.  It’s rated PG-13, but in ‘91 that was pretty close to, if not, an R rating.  In this case language is the issue: there is a small amount of heavy swearing, and I do mean heavy (mostly from Pantinkin’s character).  I’m not sure why the IMDB only gives it a 5.6 or so rating… it was well made and well worth a watch.
