All That Heaven Allows (1955)

Interesting.  Short.  Lovely.  Melodrama.  Those four words describe this movie absolutely.  At least in my opinion.  I enjoyed, but it didn’t touch or move like I had expected it to.  I was shocked by my reaction.  I expected to be moved to tears like I was with Written on the Wind (another Douglas Sirk film).  I wasn’t.  The message was great and I related to it, but for some odd reason it didn’t hit the bullseye.  That was disappointing, but I don’t think it was the filmaker’s fault.  Wyman and Hudson gave great performances and it was a treat to see Agnes Moorehead in a pleasent role.  The cinematography was wonderful, I loved the lighting effects.  On that note, the two scenes that really stuck out to me were:  1) The scene in Kay’s bedroom and 2) All scenes in front of the beautiful window in the old mill.  The entire setting is magical.  I recommend it.
